Preparation & Integration Therapy

Preparation & Integration are the 60-minute sessions that are offered before and after a Ketamine, cannabis, or Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy session.

These sessions do not involve any medicines.

What to Expect

What does psychedelic preparation and integration for Ketamine and/or Cannabis look like at Beyond the Mind?

The frequency and pacing of psychedelic preparation and integration sessions will vary from person to person, and generally are scheduled for 60 minutes. These can be in-person, or remote.

Preparation is always where we start when considering KAP/CAP, and we will schedule a minimum of two preparation sessions (some people may want or need many more) before we get started with the Ketamine or Cannabis sessions. Preparation is a time to get to know each other (if we are the beginning of this therapeutic relationship), and to prepare your internal world for the journey you are gearing up to take. Preparation is a time to ask questions, deepen into self reflection, and assess what factors are important for you to trust diving into this experience.

It is generally advised to schedule an integration session a few days to a week after a Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (Ketamine or Cannabis) medicated session, especially when we’re just getting started. Since we will likely have an ongoing set of sessions scheduled, some people prefer to integrate with other resources, and that’s something we can discuss. Whatever the plan, integration is a critical element of this process, if we want the changes from the experience to stick. Integration is time spent making meaning of the experience you had while on the journey with ketamine or cannabis.

It is also an option to schedule a preparation and/or integration session if you are planning on, or have already had, a psychedelic experience outside of therapy, and you’d like additional therapeutic support. Of course, we cannot offer to you or condone the use of illegal psychedelic substances, nor can we keep you safe if you choose to take psychedelics on your own. We do strongly believe that it is safer to talk about these experiences rather than do them in secret. We also offer you a promise that we will be honest in sharing any ethical, safety, health, psychological, emotional, or spiritual concerns we may have for your underground use of psychedelics.

For many years now, there has been significant research taking place all over the world, specific to understanding the healing properties of different psychedelic substances for various conditions. However, there are currently many legal restrictions specific to the use, purchase, and distribution of psychedelics, both for individuals and clinical professionals. We are not in a position to provide legal advice or information as it relates to the laws, rules, or regulations of any substances. We encourage you to do your own research on the risks, legality, and safety of any products you might be using on your own. We recommend looking up information on how Colorado has recently decriminalized psilocybin and created a legal pathway for psilocybin assisted psychotherapy in the state.

We are based in Denver, Colorado and treat people throughout the state of Colorado.
